Origin

The use of the appellation avatar for the on-screen representation of the user was coined in 1985 by Chip Morningstar and Joseph Romero in designing LucasFilm's online role-playing bold Habitat.6 The computer bold Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar was appear in 1985, but does not use the chat in this sense, alone in its aboriginal religious sense; the player's in-game final cold is to become an "Avatar". Later amateur in the Ultima alternation use the appellation in the aforementioned faculty as Habitat and acquaint Habitat-style customization of avatars. Another aboriginal use of the appellation was in the pen and cardboard role-playing bold Shadowrun (1989).citation needed
